A comprehensive tool for portacabin configuration, cost calculation and administration

Our portacabin configurator means smoother rentals, returns, and administration for Skanska’s salesforce and customers alike.

Challenge

Skapa’s relationship with Swedish construction and development company Skanska goes back a long time. As part of our work with Skanska’s Projektservice – a system set up to facilitate machine and equipment rentals – we were asked to create an add-on portacabin configurator feature.

Portacabin configuration varies greatly from one project to another. Skanska’s customers and salesforce wanted a solution that allowed them to make calculations on and comparisons between different portacabin configurations: features, sizes, number of floors, and the costs involved.

Solution

The portacabin configurator was integrated with the existing business system, as it was not intended as a separate administration tool. Skapa created the configurator in a .NET environment, connected to an SQL-server.

Skanska’s customers and salespeople use the configurator to choose between the company’s portacabins, presented with pictures, blueprints, feature descriptions, and more. The portacabins can be digitally constructed and assessed, thanks to a graphic user interface (GUI). The GUI also provides the user with price information for the configuration they want.

Result

The portacabin configurator makes it easier for Skanska to offer their portacabins, along with other machinery and equipment, to customers. It also makes it easier for Skanska’s customers to select portacabins that suit their particular needs and project-specific requirements.
