Challenge

Volvo Penta’s products are used in a wide variety of applications and industries worldwide. When we conducted an analysis of the company’s communication, however, it showed a significant emphasis on the marine leisure market. By comparison, the marine commercial and industrial segments were barely addressed.

As we discussed this with Volvo Penta, we understood that the latter business areas were every bit as vital as marine leisure, with major growth potential. They needed to become a lot more visible, and presented in a professional, customer-facing context.

Solution

We suggested building a content marketing blog for Volvo Penta, demonstrating the depth and scope of the company’s knowledge and operations. A steady flow of articles meant that both major and minor aspects of Volvo Penta’s work could be covered, and in turn generate valuable Google traffic over long periods of time. This would attract customers within a range of industries, on land and at sea, many of whom were not targeted by the company’s traditional advertising.

Crucially, the blog would also be able to move beyond the glossy yachts and other, less in-depth aspects of Volvo Penta’s work that other advertising agencies often focused on. In fact, we saw the blog as an ideal opportunity to showcase the stone crushers, tugboats, combine harvesters, passenger ferries, forestry machines and other applications that help Volvo Penta’s customers every day, yet rarely get their time in the limelight.

Result

Volvo Penta Professional Blog has attracted relevant and useful Google traffic to Volvo Penta for years, and helped increase customers’ interest in the company. In 2022, the blog was fully integrated with Volvo Penta’s website, where articles continue to be published as stories. Thanks to excellent SEO, many articles yield top search results on Google, with some articles also becoming featured snippets. A featured snippet is a box at the top of the Google search results. When Google concludes that a certain article or text provides the best answer to a specific question, it can present the answer to that question – the article or text – in the form of a featured snippet, for greater visibility.
