Music webshops e-commerce platform

Challenge

A group of music stores in West Sweden, Musikbutikerna, used to share a common website and e-commerce platform. However, one of the stores wanted its own site and webshop, to boost sales and retain the more personal interaction they had with their in-store customers. When the other stores decided that they too preferred similar arrangements for their own sites and webshops, they could all split the costs for the project among themselves.

Solution

Skapa’s solution architects built a new e-commerce platform in nopCommerce. Each store got a separate nopCommerce instance, to better match and serve the stores’ different customer databases. Skapa also created a new graphic profile, one where certain color schemes and other visual details differed among the stores. This made each store and webshop easier to recognize and distinguish from the others, while maintaining a common, coherent graphic design. A new, stronger search engine was developed as well.

A blog was set up for one of the stores. A steady flow of B2C content marketing articles helped display the store’s product inventory – and the staff’s expertise – further, making it easier and even more appealing to place orders online.

Result

Integrating the stores’ customers, products and orders made it easier to place, register and administer orders. Consequently, more orders came in, increasing revenue and giving the stores a stronger competitive edge online.

Skapa also developed a system where the stores were able to cooperate around products and store inventories (though not prices, which were set individually by each store). Images and product information from manufacturers could be entered into the overall system, and be used by all the stores.
